There are several factors that contribute to the price of a mural, primarily, the level of detail desired, amount of coverage, wall texture, ceiling height and the level of difficulty. We have a $400 minimum.
Do you charge a consulting fee or charge for estimates?
No, there is not a consultation fee if you live within 30 miles of Richardson, Texas. If you live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, there is a non-refundable $25 trip charge for each visit excluding painting days. If you decide to move forward and have me do a sketch for you, there is a $45 sketch fee that will be deducted from the final invoice, should you decide to use me. If you do not hire me to paint the mural, the sketch fee is payment for my design and research time. A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking; the balance due upon completion of the mural.
We prefer cash or checks, but credit card payment can be arranged through Paypal, if necessary.
How long does it take from start to finish?
The painting process can take anywhere from a half-day to a couple of weeks. The average mural takes between one and three days. The Nemo room took over two weeks, as did the Birds of Connecticut.
Prior to mural painting, what type of preparation is required?
This varies by project, but generally, the furniture in the room can be moved to the center of the room or to a side where we’re not painting. If we are painting the ceiling, the room will most likely need to be emptied. If, by chance, scaffolding is needed, most everything will need to be removed from the room. It is important that pets and children not be able to enter the room when we are painting to avoid accidents.
I am pregnant–is the paint you use safe for me to be around?
The paint I use for murals is a water-based acrylic paint that is odor-free, dries in minutes, and is non-toxic even if ingested. I normally use Behr® brand paint for base coating which is also non-toxic and is safe for pregnant women. It does have a slight paint odor, but the odor dissipates within 24-48 hours if the room is properly ventilated.
Most of my mural paintings are high quality acrylic paints that are permanent once the paint has cured, and the life and longevity of the mural in normal living conditions is quite high. You can expect your mural to last as long as you’d like it to be there, provided you take care to protect it as you would any other wall in your home.
What surfaces can you paint on?
We can paint on just about any surface... brick, cloth, cement, tile, and glass to name just a few.
If something happens due to accidental damage or due to neglect, we can repair it at a cost.
How do we know what the finished murals will look like?
banana, ink. is different than any other muralist you might hire, in that we create the mural in the computer first. I will take digital pictures of your room and create a digital sketch for design approval. You, as the client, will see a digital proof of exactly what the finished room will look like, colors and all, before we ever pick up a paintbrush. You will know exactly what you will get and we will know exactly what to paint.
How long have you been painting?
I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Advertising and Graphic Design from the University of North Texas and have been a professional artist for more than fifteen years. I started painting murals in 2000. I believe that my experience as a designer has trained me to listen to my clients and taught me how to cater my design style to their personality and goals rather than my own. If you look at my paintings, you will see that I have mastered a variety of styles, rather than having my own signature style.
Can you paint while we are home or will we need to leave the house?
Yes, you can be home while we’re painting. We try to paint during normal business hours. If we’re doing a commercial project, we’ll do all we can to minimize the impact, however, there are certain situations that might interrupt business.
